The NYC Subway system runs OS2. Yes, os2. You think they have fomo from Windows 2016 server? No, the system works. It's the same thing with control4. Control4 makes incredible reliable products but they will always release new things. Everything won't always be backwards compatible and thats a good thing. If everything was backwards compatible forever that would mean they aren't innovating enough.
The bitch fest this thread has become is just stupid already.

Yeah really not sure why people expect old stuff to be updated forever. Like has been said cell phones, cars, etc don't get updates forever. Why should your C4 be any different? And 8 years is definitely long enough to stop updating. They didn't decrease your functionality, just didn't give you increased.

Usually when a P/E firm comes in and buys something at a premium (40% over trading price) , it is seen as a financial “win” for the company being purchased, not a bail out.
It is a niche market. Shareholders do not want to see a niche market with a slow and steady climb. It went public/private for investors to make money. If you know the market you’ll see that process.
Has nothing to do with dealer markets vs DIY vs anything else. That is ancillary noise you want to add to the conversation but its not related. There is no direct correlation. C4 couldn’t keep shareholders happy; that does not mean their model is flawed. Not necessarily a direct correlation.

Oh give me a break.
Existing systems don’t stop working when an upgrade comes out.
Lets think of HVAC as you suggest. When trane releases a more efficient furnace, do they let you upgrade your existing one to make it the same efficiency? No.
When they come out with a WiFi smart thermostat, do they let you download an upgrade to give your thermostat the same features? No. You have to buy a new one.

NX8 NX8V2 require the NX584 automation module
NX8E requires the P-0003 Ribbon to DB9 cable
The units work fine on OS3 as long as you are using the above parts, the correct driver, and setup the panel and driver per the instructions in the driver.
