msgreenf reacted to Neo1738 in Can you feed audio from an Echo into a C4 controller?
If the Alexa Link is what's plugged into the matrix what tells the matrix which output to use (ie which room to play music in)? This won't work. Seems C4 doesn't have the ability to program the matrix to turn on a specific zone when that rooms Alexa is initiated (at least as of now). You can tell Alexa to play xyz then initiate another command to have the C4 switch to appropriate room. Only way to do it seamlessly is have a dot for each room and each zone in the rack into the matrix.

We're always busy now that we are working on 6 month cycles (ISE / CEDIA). The question is now do you want to wait 6 weeks versus do you want to wait 10 weeks before we start working on a project
Back on topic.
We spoke to the guys at Caavo (https://caavo.com/) at CEDIA Expo. Their product does just this. I asked them to expose their API so that we can do this on all the control systems we support but at the moment they are using Crestron's voice input to display the data on their own onscreen UI.
Hopefully sometime in the future they will have implemented bi-directional communications and if so we'll develop a driver for them.

Why on earth you'd want to have the cheapest electronics (FireCube) run your home is beyond me?
Every and I mean every Amazon electronic device that I've purchased has crapped out on me well before the warranty periods. It was commonplace for me to purchase new Fire tablets every 6 months for my kids because they would literally just stop working.
Never again and moved on from this crap years ago.

msgreenf reacted to Shivam Paw in Google Calendar Integration (View Events on Navs, Program Event Alerts & Event Variables)
Just released V9 which finally has creating events. The delay was due to Google taking over a month with authorising the change in "scopes".
Release Notes:
* Added ability to create events from C4 navigators. Note: this requires you to reauthorize your Google account
* Added ability to view logged in account details and log out of that account
* Added ability to begin account log in/authorization from C4 navigators
* Added ability to select calendar from C4 navigators.
* Fixed bug where event starting at midnight tomorrow would show in today's events
* Updated documentation

I have 2 Card Access WMS10-2 motion sensors that I've using outdoors for the past 4 years without any issues. Just replace the batteries when needed. They have survived the extreme Texas summers. Not sure about sub-zero temps.

The Gillette school of business Vs the making money selling hardware school of business.
Fire TV gets the user to buy movies. The loss leader hardware is paid for in content purchase.
C4 needs to make money selling hardware, that is what it does. Apple makes money selling hardware. It also makes money selling content but does not loss lead on the hardware. -

Cause stuff changes.
For instance, AppleTV pre and post 4K.
Or legacy Roku controllers no longer being updated. (Or Sonos, or HC controllers, or.....)
Built in will just create a headache in 2 years, and it's only $100 or less for a Roku.

This question has been answered via email. For anyone wondering. Don't try to use the Plex Full driver to control Kodi.

Just change it in the avr itself. You should be able to assign what HDMI goes to what input.

msgreenf reacted to LollerAgent in Server Rack advice?
Why is vertical power distribution better?
1. Vertical is usually 0U, meaning it doesn't take up any horizontal rack space.
2. It means shorter and cleaner runs for your devices since you don't have to go up/down with your power runs.

msgreenf reacted to sonic30101 in Making Voice Control Smarter (both Alexa and Google)
I have Google home but the concept is the same. I have 4 Chromecast audios in the rack. Named inside, outside, master bath, and garage. Then in programing of the matrix amp you can trigger when audio is present to turn a desired zone on and off. It works great, biggest downfall of using a Chromecast or echo is no metadata compared to using a Sonos connect or port. But a vast improvement over native music for voice control at the moment.

ARC sucks because it can be so inconsistent. Get a streaming device (Roku, Shield, ATV etc). IMHO.

msgreenf reacted to c4toys in Making Voice Control Smarter (both Alexa and Google)
I have it setup for a customer, where he says "alexa play relax playlist on the sound system". it turns on the kitchen speakers and plays his relax playlist from his amazon unlimited account. just one command, now I need to test grouping rooms together with voice controls.. next truck roll

msgreenf reacted to dcovach in Alexa voice control unable to link account
Re-register your controller and it should link after. You may also have to remove and re-add the control4 alexa skill after that. These were the last steps I had to do because of the OS 311 epic driver fiasco
Note: 4sight is still needed

msgreenf reacted to thegreatheed in authorized dealer status
Sure. And they do hold workshops, but those cost money (your previous question was do low-volume dealerships cost money). Continually educating dealers who aren't selling anything is a quick way to lose money.
You are right that money isn't a perfect indicator. That's why dealers also have to be trained and have certain numbers of trained techs on staff. And why Snap/C4 has regional managers in the area who can address quality issues that come up.

msgreenf reacted to thegreatheed in authorized dealer status
If a dealer isn't actively working on systems, they aren't getting the exposure and experience necessary to stay current. Inexperienced dealers don't help grow the brand.
