  1. I'm sure there's others but:

Readily available (free) cam drivers for:

    -HIKVision

    -Lillin

    -Luma

Almost any camera if you set up a Blue Iris system

Also free but by 3rd party:

-Digital Watchdog (Spectrum line) by Homeation

    Paid by 3rd party:

    Homeation/The Drivers Lab:

-FLIR (yes there are some, not sure on all the details, no clue on compatibility with their many sub brands)

    Black Wire Desgins:

    -AMcrest

    -ReoLink

    -ToughDog

    -W-Box

    DriverCentral:

    -Dahua

    -Vivotek

    -Starcam

    -Zuum

HIKVision is popular because they have a ton of choices, aren't poorly priced and readily available. Lilin is a bit more expensive but a great product. Luma is so-so. Not bad but cheaper for a reason. For all three these brands most if not all (somewhat) current models are supported and drivers work well, with the possible exception of the HIKVision NVR control driver (thoguh not the cams) from C4 which has been problematic.

Dahua is well known and are good cams but not always easy to obtain. Think most cams are supported but not too familiar.

Blue Iris is nice because you can get almost any camera to work, but requires a specially setup computer to operate and I would advise you to make sure you can handle the software yourself.

Watchdog is popular among many (sub) contractors, especially security companies (margin). Can't comment on the driver, and it's been years since I dealt with them (and hated them then)

Other brands....are cheaper option - but are focused on DIY and often cheaper for a reason.. Take care with these brands in your camera selection too - not all cams are supported, I certainly wouldn't ASSUME they are. and would check the model numbers. Can't really comment on the drivers as such.

EASIEST are probably Lilin and Luma as both are tight Control4 partners (Luma is SnapAV) and both NVR and camera drivers are simple to set up, as is the equipment. Like I said the HIKVision cam driver has been flawless for us, but the NVR not so much (to the point that we usually jsut use an IR driver if there is a desire for control at all - I generally recommend using a computer to log into an NVR to begin with).

What I have is a Mesh system all around the house because the Virgin internet loses power in the whole house

I'm going to venture a guess and say that it's not a true mesh system.

I strongly suspect whatever AP you're connecting to is on a vlan or otherwise blocked from talking to the main network.

    So true.

What you say is about a NAS and external players is so true..

So Why would you want a HTPC?

Simply because you can push the boundaries...

    Why do anything?

Why get up in the morning?

    All good dude.

Why put effort in a lesser product.

But to be honest, that's what people are used to.  90%+ of remotes that people use are IR and require LoS.  I bet that a lot of C4 users point there remotes at the TV when they use it, thinking that they need LoS.

You would lose that bet if you change the text to 'a lot of C4 users after a few months'. You'd be surprised how quickly people 'forget' that habit. And this will be true ten times over for younger generations. My kids have no idea what 'point the remote' means. REALLY they don't.

I'm not seeing the huge draw for control of game consoles, either. Maybe for DVD/Blu-ray control but that's it? It's a game console, that's why it has a game controller with it.

Agreed - it would be NICE but it doesn't make the priority list. No less eager to try out the new harmony piece/PDP piece for PS4 though - biggest thing is power on/off control (and then primarily power off so kids don't leave things on). Also agree fully that the compaint there is to the manufacturer - while yes C4's goal is to have as many options as they can, closed systems aren't C4's responsibility open. Unless it's Hollywood ;)

IP drivers don't just "stop" working

Again agreed - I've just seen poor implementation on the DEVICES, primarily on receivers. That said the reason I prefer serial when/if available for 3rd party devices (when reasonable - ie video switches or receivers) is because it DOESN'T rely on networking.

there is no feedback channel from dealers or from here back to C4central to make change happen. That has now been confirmed on this forum.

Errr. WTF are you talking about.

And using the excuse that it’s other manufactures blocking integration is also a lame excuse.

Yes, we really should just hack everything right? When 99% of things that have Bluetooth ALSO have IR or IP or serial, or any combination of some or all.

Also there seems almost an obsessive belief in IP control- that somehow it’s perfect

By C4 you mean? er....again you are really just pulling crap out of thin air

actually live with the platform 24/7 and *really* put it thru it’s paces in the rough and tumble of the everyday “modern family”, Or give it to a wife and a bunch of daughters to operate. Or a kid playing on a PS4.

My one daughter is watching TV right now, My son is playing PS4. I', listening to music, my wife is as well elsewhere in the house. My other kid isn't using the 'system' right now, other than turning the lights on from her tablet to play in the basement. Stop assuming and accusing WAP.

because it is a bloody good practical and useful idea!

    Based on what WAP?

It’s become near on impossible to pass back any useful feedback. I’ve got better things to do

Feel free to pass on USEFUL information WAP. Drunken rants on Hollywood, HDMI and unsubstantiated and referenced assumptions and accusation however are neither 'feedback' nor 'useful'

Again - what about for controlling the PS4?  Didn't you say this a couple of weeks ago about the IrUSB:

So why wouldn't it be useful to be able to control a PS4?  Or a Shield without an IrUSB?  Or a PC?

Because you cannot support every possible stack out there. Sony WILL NOT allow the PS4 unless oficially licensed for example - why do you think it took YEARS for Harmony to get a device and even then it took a 3rd party?

  8. 16 hours ago, Robert Robran said:

I have a harmony on the way so I can build a driver but so far none of the sony bluray codes or the ps3 codes work it. The peace from pdp looks just like the old ps3 logitech peace.

I'm trying to get the device itself, haven't found a way unless I order out of the US yet.

No need to read labels to figure out how to control a room.

That's the point though, a single room is easy, but once it becomes device after device - are you going to have all do the same thing in each room?

But hey if they are engraved they'd just be another option, and a nicely designed one. Except that they aren't an option, because they can't be integrated

  10. Hmm looks like a great demo piece, but I'd be curious how well it would work once you have 20 or 40 of them in a house, as you'd have to remember what each and every one of the possible touches or gestures actually does on each and every button? Love how they say they want to 'keep it simple' but unless you do each one exactly the same in every room, with no way of engraving them I don't see how it's any 'easier' than a normal keypad, quite the opposite? Very nice design though.

At any rate, I do not believe any are available. That said, it would appear it's actually based on KNX, and has little to do with Crestron as such - KNX HAS integration available into Control4 - so it may be possible to do that way. Mind you it looks these have been around for several years already - so if it hasn't happened yet... Could also have to do with the fact that it's all based on european sizing which, in the end, is a smaller market to begin with.

The loxone one is really just a 5 button keypad, that's just touch sensitive vs pushing a physical button - meh.
