I didn't say anything that wasn't true.  It's not FUD to tell it like it is.  The UI is a web page, not a custom iOS and Android app, and doesn't offer 'out of the box' VPN.
Nothing I said indicated that you couldn't make Home Assistant work great.  It's just not 'everyday easy'.
I did say it looked early 2000's, which was a bit rude, but was also an opinion.  That said, I have seen Home Assistant setups that *do* look that bad...
OS3's UI isn't for everyone, but it's consistent, and automatic, there's no setup, and it certainly has value.  The lighting UI (just one list, not room-based, etc.) and non-existent multi-room audio functionality in Home Assistant are huge turn-offs for me, but may not be for someone else.
    Different strokes for different folks.

a clown who likes to try new things on their clients that's for sure!
I get that.  Which is why I said it is still a luxury add on to an already priced luxury platform.  I could imagine having 7-10 TVs and 1-2 boxes behind each one and having to troubleshoot 1 down box or change your netflix password and now go do it 10 times on each TV, oh wait you dont have netflix anymore but you put that $15 towards Paramount plus, now go download it and set it up 10x in the house.  There is some upkeep with having 15-20 devices and keeping OS updated, apps updated, passwords updated, etc.
I still think the biggest selling point for us was sharing video/audio across the house all in sync.
And for what it is worth, forget about "sync" - streaming apps tend to be behind, so not great for live sports, especially if your cell phone gets various updates before you see what happens it can be annoying....

There were 3 revisions of the HC300: HC300, HC300B and HC300C. Power supply should be the same throughout, C would be latest.

This supply isn't as plug and play, BUT it's also not 10+ years old like all the one's you're going to find used, which will fail just like yours did.
You'll need to cut the ends, and know the basics of 110v LNC and LV + - (if any of that's scary, skip this)

Here is a blog entry on how to replace the power supply:
    http://www.5khz.com/2014/05/19/replacing-the-power-supply-in-the-control4-home-controller-hc-300/
Alternatively, you could run the 5V line from a PC power supply temporarily just to ensure that the issue is actually the power supply.

Search the threads here and you will see a part number.  However, it seems like the part may no longer be available from electronics suppliers.
If I were you I would buy a used HC300 on ebay, you should be able to get them for no more than $20.  Then it is very, very easy to replace the power supply.  Open the case.  The power supply is a small board that has two connectors that pull off.  Pull of those connectors, take out the screws and replace.

Home Assistant has no concept of music distribution, and Control4 doesn't publish audio or control protocols for any of the music elements, so I'm guessing no.

They all suck compared to Control4 in my opinion   Either go completely DIY with Sonos, Smart Apps on TV, Ring/Nest, Lutron, Alexa, etc...or if you want a professional automation system, use Control4.

If you have network issues, on most jobs you'll be having trouble controlling things anyway.
Network issues are also easy to fix, and even easier to diagnose. The problem is, people put unmanaged switches in , don't turn on the mechanisms designed to protect the network, or use cheap equipment. When I was an installer, we avoided 99% of that by mostly refusing to use unmanaged switches. Honestly, most of the other issues we have were easy to identify because of the smart switches.
Wifi 7 is 30gbps. Even with interference, congestion will likely matter less too.
Also, it's less likely ZigBee coverage in a house will be sufficient. I've seen cases where insufficient controllers were installed, and control got sketchy in another room because someone walked in front of it

Any kind of 'active images' graphical UI is unfeasible on Zigbee.  That is, if you have to pull icons across a Zigbee network, you're going to be waiting a while.
As an example, a 200x200 .png is around 20-30k.  Gen3 Zigbee Lighting firmware is around 100k.
Would you want to wait 1/3 the amount of time of a Zigbee dimmer firmware update for *every* icon that your UI remote pulls up for each album in a list on Pandora?
    Yeah, I think that's unreasonable...

    Exactly what I was thinking.
The bandwidth alone is incredibly limited, especially for the amount of media being sent to the Neeo presently. Depending on Zigbee channels used, the bandwidth is no more than roughly 150-250 kbps. No way I want to browse through lists or media on a touchscreen devices that gets data at roughly only 2x to 4x of dial-up speeds

Definitely.  The lock banging into the jamb is why I made the 'Auto Lock' experience button, since I had contact sensors in the door already...

I did leave it enabled on one of my Yale locks, the one to the AirBnB apartment in the basement, since I think they'd be locking it from the outside a lot more than I typically do (we usually leave via the garage).

We do take overs all the time, our project manager always goes out and reviews the site and has a discussion with client at no charge, then we send out one of our top techs to look over the system, make recommendations, update if possible and charge for our time. It may not be a huge profit, but it is a client gained and if we can get the system more user friendly and stable its a plus for everyone. We gained a client and hopefully an avenue to gain more clients, word of mouth is our main part of our business. Trust me when we come across these take overs there is always a reason, its either the system is just not done correctly, the install was poor, the programming was terrible, the design was garbage, or the client was a true pain in the ass. Yes there is always a reason. We are a Gold Dealer, We may never be a pinnacle dealer, we dont strive for a label, we strive to make all the clients we have happy, within reason we do what we can. We have 1 dedicated service guy, the rest are techs and if we have to we will pull a tech off an install to take the load off our service tech. Our  main servicer is done remotely and then a truck is rolled out if it cant be fixed from our office. The true story of why a dealer and client part ways is no concern of ours, just getting the system functioning properly is. However, if its a totally unruly client, sometimes the headache isnt worth the takeover but we still try. We also need to make the system serviceable so yes we will require a rack to be rewired or parts to be included into the system for our service needs and yes it sucks to tell a client he has to pay again to have us make a rack serviceable because 90% of the problems we come across are from a poorly installed rack, crappy designed system. Like any other field, there are guys, and companies that care about thier work, and thier are guys and companies that care about the $$$ overall.
And its just my opinion that C4 should have some sort of accountability to dealers, they should have a way that if they receive so many complaints they should drop those dealers. Its a very good product and should have a way to weed out poor dealerships.

There is a menu option in the settings of the lock to disable one touch locking. I believe it's 3,3,3.

RyanE reacted to pfissure in MyQ DriverCentral driver now completely dead?
Hi everyone, I am the OP (i.e. the one to blame for this long thread.)
After much delay I have now got a z2io added to my project, soldered wires to my Chamberlain remote and connected them to R1 on the z2io.  i can open and close the garage by using the "close relay" action in Properties under the z2io.

but i am not a dealer, i don't have composer pro and so i am unable to make the connection between the garage and the z2io.  i like my dealer and he is responsive so i am sure if i told him what to do he would/could do it.

so what exactly is the connection that needs to be made?  i have a garage in my project, it has a "garage door" and in programming there are commands like "open" "close" etc.  (and i used to use these with the old myq driver).

i suppose this garage door needs to be connected to the z2io so that "open" will close the relay triggering the soldered remote to send the signal to the garage.  is there a simple way to explain to my dealer what to do?

    thanks again for your help.

Manually unregistering the controller through the customer portal and then re-registering through composer fixed it.

Figured I'd share a simple hack I did tonight that came out well (I think):
Use Case: Our front door DS2 has occasional false positives for our motion annoucement (which we love), so I wanted to add a second sensor to QA that via confirmation logic Solution: Dissasembled a NYCE 3041 and integrated it into a 1" PVC pipe/cap, sealed it at the bottom and sensor for the outdoor environment, painted and cut it to be a landscape 'stake' Given these sensors are known to be durable outdoors pre-mod., thinking it will hold up. Also upped to a CR123 for 2x battery life (despite easy cap removal to change).
