Sorry another camera question

Recommended Posts

I've read through previous posts, but I still need clarification, my knowledge on cameras is limited at best, so sorry if this tedious.

Is there a cheaper camera option? I have seen many wireless ip cameras (around $100). Any way to integrate these? My systems is 2.1 4 x HC300's 1 x HC200. These will be all inside, maybe looking out a window. Physical installtion wont be an issue, just how I tie it into my C4 system.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks

I have 3 Panasonic cameras installed and these were pricey to install (including physical installation). I wanted to throw a couple of additional cameras in and so I simply purchased a couple of Foscam wireless cameras. These have turned out to be very nice.

Integration in to C4 requires some additional work because the Panasonic/Axis drivers do not work but there is a post in these forums that explains how to change the driver.

How are those Foscam cameras? Do you use any of them outdoors, or only indoors? Does the Pan/Tilt work within C4?

Can you show a couple of pictures of how they appear on your GUI please?

Thanks in advance.

I like them. The quality is very good. They have IR which makes them nice at night as well. Although the Pany cameras are more discrete at night. I rarely use the C4 interface to view the camera output. It's much too slow. I use CaVu or the iPhone app that came with my Synology DS NAS. I also have a Google TV in the Kitchen that instantly switches on with the outdoor cameras overlaid on the TV picture.

Unfortunately, I haven't added these to C4 yet, although I did refer to a post in the forums on instructions to add them in. As soon as I do, I'll post a few pictures.

Agreed

I have 4 7" ( non IE ) touchscreens. Camera access is instant. Many of them are left on the driveway cam, and just touching the screen ( or walking past 1 of them ) turns the screen on and the live image is there instantly. All TSs and cams are wired to a Cisco managed switch.

When the TSs are not left on the cam, 1 of the 4 hard buttons on the TS is dedicated to bringing up the camera interface. Even using the button to bring up the interface has it up ( with 3 cams ) within a second.

Thanks

D.

I don't have any TS screens. I only have a 7" tabletop and a smaller one that I rarely use. I was only comparing one iPhone app to another. Regardless, I'm sure the TS screens provide a better experience. I'll wait until I upgrade to 2.0 before I get any.

I must mention that the Foscam cameras do not show up in CaVu. They do, however, render nicely in my DS Cam app (Synology).

I did manage to install the driver for Foscam and the screenshot in my iPhone app is attached. I believe some additional tweaking is required for the pan/tilt because it doesn't seem to be working yet. The Study and Garage cams are Foscams.

bringing them up on your TS is quick.........but how about real time..through C4......seems cameras have a delay when intergrated.

I have a panasonic at the front door, works great from laptop or Iphone app.........big delay on C4 interfaces

Sub second to have streaming video real time for me. Running 3 Panasonic cams.

Thanks

pp.........big delay on C4 interfaces

I see a 1hz update rate or better (meaning fluid movement of subject) on all TSs. Where I see sub-standard performance is using the camera's supplied recording software. 0.25Hz at best at my computer. All bets are off using WiFi cams. Those don't pull-up quickly at all on a TS. Also, thumbs act wonky on Control4. They only update when you are on the Security>IP cameras screen. If they don't update and you try to go full-page, you get no image. These are my observations.
