Another 3 way questions

Recommended Posts

Please bare with me on this one. I have several 3 way switch scenarios in my house, which I installed and work perfectly. This particular scenario I can't seem to get working. I have a feeling it's easy, but I'm just not seeing it. This is what I have:

Dimmer location: 1 x wire Power in (Black White, ground),

1 x wire to 3 way switch which I'm using a 3 button key pad (White Red Black),

1 x wire to light (black white)

3 button keypad location 1 x wire consisting of (White, Black and red) coming from dimmer location.

Any help with what connects where would be appreciated. I have the 3 way diagram that I downloaded from this site, but it's not helping.

Thanks again

Scott

Hi again

Not sure if I was clear. This is the wiring I have, I need to know how to connect all of it.

Box 1

wire 1 - white, black and red

wire 2 - white and black (mains i.e. the power from the breaker)

wire 3 - white and black (load i.e. the light)

Box 2

wire 1 - white, black and red

The dimmer will be in Box 1, and the 3 button keypad in Box 2.

Thanks

might want to try it this way:

in box #1 you will need to make sure you tie all the white wires together/ and tail to the dimmer..........then tie all the grounds together/ then tail to the dimmer...............now tie the black wire from the light to the load tail on the dimmer............now tie the black wire from panel (feed) to the black wire from box#2 and tail to dimmer.................cap off red wire on both ends.

then in box #2 do as ilovec4 says

the reason i did a step by step is you have a dead end 3-way ...........so the electrician could have used the white and red as travelers or the black and red........cant tell from here
