nascent
Hi everyone, just started getting into the C4 world and really liking what I'm seeing so far. We actually just got back from the Tech 1 training in Salt Lake City and since we were the last class of the year before they upgraded the training equipment, we got a great deal if we wanted to take the HC-500 and the 250 remote that we had trained on.After flying back home, I tried connecting the controller to my TV and my router to show my wife some of the interesting things that could be done, but, for the life of me, I can't figure out what IP address the 500 is getting (if any) so that I can find it on Composer and even get into the program.I have spent a lot of time searching the internet for networking answers and just as much time here looking for possible solutions (eg. holding ID button down for 30-40 seconds to reset...although this solution was recommended for the 300), and best I can figure is that I'll need to talk to my boss about what I need in order to do a USB restore. That is unless some of you might have any ideas for me. I'm not especially skilled at networking just yet, so I could have easily been messing up something simple.Thank you in advance. I'm very eager to continue my C4 training by monkeying around with the controller/remote/software at home.
thecodeman
If the network reset doesn't work, it may be best to usb restore anyway.
nikon
Yeah just do the USB restore and you will be fine. you will have a nice blank slate to start you Control4 life on.
RyanE
Try putting the input from the controller to the TV on a different controller output (composite, for example) when you boot.If you get the boot screen, you can see the IP address the box gets.RyanE
markyr2k1
Just connect to it with composer (or even system manager which lets you change IP addresses) No real need to see it`s IP address unless of course its a fixed IP address and it`s outside the range of your router
ILoveC4
If the gateway and subnet were different, or it has a static IP outside your routers range it won't work. Just do a USB restore...you'll want their programming off of it anyways.
nascent
Wow, great community here. Thanks for all the replies. Thanks to RyanE. I didn't know that loading screen came up on power up. I found the address it was giving itself (192.168.1.2), but I haven't been able to connect to it with that address yet. I'm thinking it has to do with my router not allowing me, so I'll check out all the options and see if I make progress there. Might be out of the range as you said ILoveC4.markyr2k1: Every time I try to run composer (other than virtual Director), the first thing that pops up is the Director window where it wants me to connect to the controller and when it can't, it boots me out of the program. My director isn't on the list and when I added my own with that IP, Composer thinks about it for a while before telling me I'm a mad fool and it can't connect to a Director at that IP.Thanks again everyone. I'll update later.
nascent
Got it to work.My router was only dealing with the 192.168.0.xxx range it seems and I couldn't figure out how to change that, but I was able to change the IP of the router to 192.168.1.1 instead and now the controller is visible and I'm able to connect with Composer. Thanks so much for the help. I'll be cruising around these boards a lot in the future, I'm sure.
