Audio only on left channel in each room

Recommended Posts

I have two rooms (Pool courtyard and Backyard) and a KDA-500 (4 channel DSP amp).

I am only getting Left audio to each room.

Here is the configuration:

KDA-500 connections

Unbalanced 1, Audio, STEREO, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 1

Unbalanced 2, Audio, STEREO, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 1

Unbalanced 3, Audio, STEREO, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 2

Unbalanced 4, Audio, STEREO, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 2

Pool Courtyard connections

Audio End-Point 1, RoomControl, AUDIO_SELECTION, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 1 End-Point

Audio Volume 1, RoomControl, AUDIO_VOLUME, Input, Connected To: Klipsch KDA-500 Amplifier->Channel 1* Audio/Video End-Point

* Since audio volume is only controlling channel 1 in this instance (set to Independent on the KDA), I have the KDA set Channel 2 volume to Track Channel 1.

Backyard connections

Audio End-Point 1, RoomControl, AUDIO_SELECTION, Input, Connected To: CORE5->AUDIO OUT 2 End-Point

Audio Volume 1, RoomControl, AUDIO_VOLUME, Input, Connected To: Klipsch KDA-500 Amplifier->Channel 3* Audio/Video End-Point

* Since audio volume is only controlling channel 3 in this instance (set to Independent on the KDA), I have the KDA set Channel 4 volume to Track Channel 3.

Confused as to what I may be missing here? Any assistance appreciated!

Not yet. I’m not sure it’s a Klipsch issue yet…

Hoping someone can spot something obvious with the connections. Essentially if the KDA is receiving signal over all four RCAs (core5 audio out L/R) then it should send that to the speakers.

Maybe my next troubleshooting step will be to hook another amp and speaker up to each core5 output one by one and ensure there is source signal on all channels. If there is it’s a Klipsch issue. If not, it’s the composer connections.

Have you tried to set the output of the KDA to bridged mode instead of stereo? You may also have to set the KDA input/source to "input 1" on Channel 1+2 and "input 3" on Channel 3+4 then make the appropriate connections that way you should only have to have the 2 rca cables from your core controller
I have not used the KDA but glancing over the documentation it seems to be where the KDA is not bridged to give each channel left or right.

Pretty sure bridge mode will change the amp from 4 channels of 125w each to two channels of 250w each. That’s generally how bridging works.

As for channel 1+2 and 3+4, from what I read it combines the source and outputs as mono?

I will be at site in a couple of hours so I’ll test the four core5 rca outputs to see if they are all carrying audio or not, so I can rule in/out if it’s a c4 or kda issue.

Confirmed audio is on both channels for both Core5 outputs. So it’s a Klipsch config issue.

just found a support article I haven’t seen before, and this look like it should do the trick (which is exactly how I had it setup in the first instance! Sigh):

Will test shortly. Fingers crossed…

All good! Yeah thanks. That’s the one where I read “1+2 or 2+3 represent stereo channels summed to mono output”. Whereas this page says making the four channels into two stereo zones it should be set to 1+2 and 3+4.

https://support.klipsch.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042221111-DSP-Amplifier-Input-Menu-Setup

And I’ve tried multiple combinations and still just get the right channels only. Have opened a support ticket with Klipsch.

Updating this thread in case anyone stumbles across it and it helps them with similar troubleshooting. Was really obvious in the end - there aren’t many drivers you can double-click on and get anything useful from (apart from things like lighting and blinds), so it didn’t occur to me to check there!

While waiting on Klipsch support, I noticed this in the driver properties and logs:

Resolved by double-clicking on the driver object, going into audio properties and turning mute off (sigh):
