Monopoly
Not meaning to be redundant with topics-- I dug through some of the old forums regarding options for door locks. Most are older. I have about 6 Kwikset series 910 deadbolts around my house and one is very temperamental. I'm sure it's on the way out. I saw they are discontinued and for the sake of keeping things uniform, I'm looking into replacing them all, along with new matching handles. But not looking to break the bank. Most of what I am seeing are not ZigBee but are Wi-Fi. I don't know if that's a great idea if my wi-Fi goes down (I know they should operate locally but I would loose feedback). Or is this the new-new? Has anyone done this conversion and had any hindsight or suggestions? Just looking for best practices... Thanks in advance. If the hardware is wonky get a new “smart” Kwikset from Home Depot or Amazon and swap in the c4 zigbee card for the one that comes w the big box store card
Monopoly
That would be perfect! I would prefer to do that. It seems to not operate locally with the buttons on the exterior... If for some reason the card is the reason... and I'm only thinking the issue is an operational issue, What about my first question.... In the meantime, I will try your suggestion, Thanks! Control4Savant
curious on why you anticipate your wifi being “down” while not expecting your lan or director or mesh not be down with it?
Monopoly
If my router has an issue then I am at a loss... Isn't the Control4 Mesh (ZigBee) a separate service? I have had Wi-Fi issues. As far as ZigBee, I don't know of any. Either way, my initial post stands then. Recommendations for Wi-Fi "learnings" on locks. I don't have any experience. The recommendation is to buy the same locks ‘dumb’ from a local HD without the zigbee cards, install them with your existing cards. If it’s the card just replace that. i understand your want to not spend a bunch but realistically anything done in scale is what usually ads cost to these systems. Cyknight
The simple answer is, if you want to keep it integrated, get the identical lock from Home Depot (HomeConnect) (or updated ones) that have the slot for zigbee or zwave (same SLOT) and put the old card in. The cards are what is expensive, that said it's RARELY the card that fails so yes, once the lock motor fails - replace just the lock. As a side note, it may be worth re-installing a the lock. Over time the lock can shift, and even a slight shift can cause it to bind. Just 'fixed' a dead lock last week that way.
RAV
Those lock had a very good warranty. Give Kwikset a call, even if they send you same styles but in zwave, you'd be good to go with the zigbee cards you have. Just try and not get the Halo new versions, less abilities. https://www.kwikset.com/support/warranty
