ozzieg
This C4 home includes a C4-LU862D video matrix. One of the baluns seems to be failing. Network activity lights on the balun are now lacking. I have tested the category cable with signal testers and the data line is working well. As a home owner, I would like to know: 1) should I conclude that the balun is dead, is there anything else to check/try/verify ? 2) what is the typical life span of these baluns, should I anticipate more failures ? // output from the zone link quality page of the video matrix // output from the sys_info page of the video matrix ----------------- LE2596_HDMI_DRIVER COMPILED ON : Dec 12 2017 14:24:34 FIRMWARE REV: 2.25 (remote) BOARD REV: 11 HARDWARE INF: ts=55a704fa id=aaaaaaaa (match) DOWNMIX REV: 08 (HDR ON) TMP DET: TMP100 ok PCB MODEL ID: 1 STANDBY: Full Power Up MODEL INFO: CONTROL4 BRANDED MODEL INFO: 862 Variant DOWNMIX COMPATIBILTY: Off vDbg=0 hDbg=0 CALIBRATION: On ----------------- CONTROLLER STATUS PHYS: FF FF 07 07 07 07 07 07 MEM: 00 FF 7F UPLK/SWITCH: FF 00 ----------------- IP STATUS NUKE MODE: noinfo. mujtaba.khokhar
It’s dead. These baluns have a history of dying. Typical life span varies too I’ve had some fail within a year and some still going strong for 5 ish years. You can either replace the entire matrix for a new one or replace the baluns for another brand as c4 no longer make the one you have. chopedogg88
Have you tried simply swapping it with a known good balun to see if the problem follows the balun?
Control4Savant
You can take the “dead’ balun and swap it with a working one in a different zone to verify it’s not a dead HDBT port. If the problem follows the balun it needs replaced otherwise it’s a bad matrix zone. HDBT is an industry standard
ozzieg
I will try the swap next, good idea. Will take from the least used room. I'm assuming the balun fails more often than the matrix video output port.
ozzieg
The known good balun does work where the bad balun was failing. Thumbs up for video output. I will double check the failed balun in the previous good location since some on balun board light is green, but network activity lights were absent. ozzieg
The bad c4-lu1e balun does not work in the video zone that did work. Makes a slight buzzing sound with no lights at all. Guess it is replacement time. Thanks for the feedback to diagnose.
Jobu604
I have the same issue here - any suggestion on a replacement balun given that the C4-LU1 is no longer available?
chopedogg88
I know AVPro ones work. PM me if you need a quote
Jobu604
My dealer ordered in and tried a Binary balun - it works ok but not great, as there's a bit of a lag when switching sources and not all sources work. I swapped a known good c4-lu1 and it works fine. Worth trying the AVPro balun (or another one) do you think?
