dlaugh
What can a full Homebridge installation do that the Chowmain TCP driver can't? Is it just seeing state information in the iOS Home app? My intended use is mainly to trigger various lighting changes from Siri, Watch, and iPhone. ("Turn off all lights." "Turn on kitchen lights." etc.) Thanks! booch
I use the Generic TCP Command driver from Chowmain for this. Works great with native iOS Shortcuts -- see below -- (which links to Siri, though I don't use that). alanchow
Bmwbball88
Correct you can’t get status from the tcp driver and Siri Shortcuts. homebridge might work a bit better but I just use the tcp driver myself. Works like a champ. alanchow
ekohn00
I might be wrong, but hombridge is used to allow integration into apple's home app. And it looks like the tcp driver is used to push commands.
zaphod
Homebridge only works with a limited subset of C4 devices, mainly lights and sensors. It does not work with AV at all. In theory you could create a dummy light switch and use that to control AV with programming.
RobbieF
OMG - How have I never come across the Chowmain TCP Driver in Combo with Siri Shortcuts........... Wow - So simple, and works blisteringly fast, and Sooooo. easy to setup! Thanks Guys!
dlaugh
Yes, to circle back to this, I ended up starting with the TCP driver and it is doing everything I need it to so far. Set up was really easy.

Only limitation is they it will only work on your own network (unless you port forward which we don’t recommend). https://www.chowmainsoft.com/generic-tcp-command RobbieF

Another super reliable driver from your team - thanks @alanchow! alanchow and Andrew luecke 1
zaphod
I have used the TCP driver for years, but how do you integrate Siri shortcuts?

zaphod
Thanks @LollerAgent. I have been using this driver for many years, probably before this functionality was added.

dlaugh
Super simple, and now I'm walking around my house barking "Activate Kitchen" into my Watch like a science fiction movie. Honestly, @alanchow you should rename this "Basic Siri Support (plus a bunch of other TCP stuff)" driver. @zaphod, what sorts of things are you using it for? alanchow
Glad everyone’s liking it. We actually developed it for a generic inbound web server but a side effect was that it worked with Siri Shortcuts. I use it for a quick all off, opening and closing garage doors and quick HVAC Cool/Heat/Off RobbieF
RobbieF
The amazing thing is how quick Siri is in recognising / actioning the voice request ….. and obviously the flexibility that you can actually to anything which is connected into C4 so easily. alanchow
Bmwbball88
My only request would be if somehow we could add inbound security to it. But I love the tcp driver. And actually use it for quite a few things.
schaudhary77
@alanchow If I want to configure the TCP driver to send commands from watch(es) using Siri, will the shortcuts need to be created on each iPhone individually?
dlaugh
I believe the answer is that each family member's phone needs to have the shortcuts; iOS does not appear to automatically sync shortcuts between family members. I've been texting the shortcuts I want my kids to have access to. Here are various ways to share: https://www.imore.com/how-share-your-shortcuts-others-and-how-add-shared-shortcuts. schaudhary77
Got it. Thanks for the quick response and the link to sharing shortcuts.
