ejn1
Quick question... Is a light fixture spec'd for an ELV dimmer better suited for a Control4 0-10v dimmer or just go with an Adaptive Phase Dimmer? Thanks!
msgreenf
Elv doesn't mean low voltage. Adaptive phase is what you need. ejn1 and Cinegration 1

Dimming devices that use a 0-10v signal for the dim level. This is much more common in commercial lighting (fluorescent / LED). https://www.lightology.com/index.php?module=tools_faq_0_10v_control RyanE ejn1
RAV
0-10v the dimmer isn't dimming the fixture's voltage, rather it's sending a DC voltage from 0 - 10 volts DC and the fixture adjusts it's level based on that signal.

Don't think I've ever used a fixture like that in my home setting...

Nor are you likely to unless you're building a brand new place AND consciously selecting lighting that does use it. SOME extremely high end chandeliers or fixtures use it in what you'd COULD call residential lighting (for very exclusive residences) but as said, it's more a commercial thing (also, hotels, exposition halls etc, commercial in this case certainly doesn't equal store or industrial). You may see it on patio heaters though. Just as a FYI - the reason to use 0-10v is that you don't have to deal with the actual load/wattage - bypassing limitations of what most 'line' dimmers can handle. So you can have 10 chandeliers that may be 1000w each and are wired to 5 20 amp breakers, and control them from a single 0-10v dimmer.
