ejn1
Thought I would share a few pics of a new install I did changing out my Truck Radio and Controls with a 12.1 touchscreen. The screen uses an Android based operating system and you can download most apps available for android to the device. Downloading the C4 app was seamless and allows for full control while on wifi or wifi hotspot. Also, does Carplay and has an HDMI input for use with a streaming device like Apple TV (shouldn't do while driving of course). All of the trucks AC controls move to touchscreen as well. c44me, C4 User, Neo1738 and 4 others 5

SMHarman
You need an EA1 in the truck. Time2Jet and ejn1
cybuch
very nice! Is this an after market kit, or did you home grow it?

Aftermarket with a design to integrate and retain most of the factory oem controls. And look factory. They are very car model specific as the factory audio and climate harnesses plug and play with the screen. It’s not just a screen as it has a full radio integrated. videostorm
Awesome! Given that it is Android, you could also run our SplashTiles app / tool to add live sports scores, stocks, or traffic maps. Probably other ways to do it as well if it supports widgets. RyanE, ejn1 and msgreenf
ejn1
Another cool app is MyRadar weather. Looks great on a 12 screen while driving.

Probably around $1200-$1300 with the module. Install is not difficult. I have 15 Lariat loaded and it’s the same part for 2015-20. For your 2020, decision is a little more to think about as you will lose Sync3. My truck has Sync2 which sucked and didn’t have CarPlay. All other oem features and steering wheel controls work great. another feature you lose is OEM SiriusXM but you replace it with the android app on the head unit which works awesome. PM if you want to know more but I’m finding it pretty cool so far...

ILoveC4
I took my Platinum F-150 from Sync 2 (2015) to Sync 3, to the Linkswell unit and ultimately back to Sync 3 (which it still has today). The Linkswell unit is cool, and I LOVE the big screen in my Model S, but it was really buggy. It took a long time to turn on sometimes, it would crash...it lead to a poor user experience. I was thrilled to go back to Sync 3 with CarPlay.

I bought a screen and APIM out of a wrecked car and a GPS antenna off of Amazon. Everything else plugged right in, took about 90 minutes start to finish. I was guessing it was a Gen2 based on your startup comment. The new one has a much faster processor and startup is 15-30s and also a new Android base OS. So far everything is ok fo me but I kept the OEM screen and CD module to restore if I sell it or need to. I also have an aftermarket stereo so its nice to get proper Preamp outputs which has made my audio more reliable (prior you have to run an aftermarket amp through a DSP to retain OEM features and reeq the audio out from the Sony system). Wow, $375 is a huge bargain. The Sync3 modules I've seen involved buying a new Ford head unit and are quite expensive. Of course Ford could probably let customers update for a fee but they dont do it to get you to buy a new vehicle msgreenf

I guess I’m impatient. Mine did require the new “head unit”, but it’s attached to the screen. Like I said, I bought a unit out of a crashed car but I think they’re pretty easy to get your <$500.
