LightwaveRF Gen 2 Not Compatible - What Other Wireless Solutions Are There?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently working on a new build for myself. I've got a Control4 expert working with me and has done my electrical plans.

He gave me a quote for everything I needed and the Control4 lighting system alone came to a total of about £12-15k - see quote. As this was not in my budget, I looked for alternatives and found LightwaveRF. I bought the starter pack and handed it to my Control4 expert. Last night he tested it and said:

I have been testing the Lightwave equipment on Control4. It appears the new Gen2 Hub is not directly compatible. There could possibly a way round it with IFTTT programming. But it is unreliable and very long winded in programming. The cost would go through the roof. As an independent system it should work OK. You can set automatic schedules etc. I also dont think it is possible to use the Faradite PIR to activate the new GEN 2 equipment.

So, I have gone back to him to ask for alternate wireless switches. I have also emailed LightwaveRF customer support to see if they have any plans for gen2 drivers (which I doubt will be ready for me moving in).

The plasterboarding in the house started last Wednesday, so there isn't much time to retrofit any wires for wired switches. Therefore, I was wondering what other wireless switch solutions are out there for UK residents? (Not interested in wireless bulbs due to them being ineffective if the switch is turned off)

Thanks in advance, it's much appreciated!

We are actually working with light wave on this.  It will be a licenced driver and at this early stage it’s unknown how much we will charge for it.  Should be out later this year.

Aw that's such a shame that it won't be ready in time for my build. Would have saved me a lot of money!

I spoke to my Control4 expert this morning and he said Control4 do have a wireless switch solution. Which he has previously denied. So I'm not too impressed as all along I've felt he's only recommended Control4 products and the most expensive options available. Which I understand why, but it's not great from an authorised platinum dealer!

That’s not good....

Control4 wireless light definitely available in the Uk in square and decora configuration & in various colours and finishes too

Dimmable and switched loads too

They are pretty cool and work really well if you ask me and are a great way to get zigbee around your home

Thanks

To clarify, your dealer wasn't lying that the new Essential line of wireless lighting is North America only.

The quote you referenced earlier was for centralized lighting. I won't speculate why the dealer chose centralized over the Control4 wireless options. That's a conversation between you two, but it doesn't necessarily imply he was being shady. There are pros and cons to each, and cosmetics, layouts, wants, needs, all have to be considered and weighed.

These wireless switches are brilliant. I have SAPD ( square adaptive phase dimmers) SDAPD( square adaptive duel load dimmer). If your Dealer denied them selling these find another ASAP.
