TD91
Have gigabit xfinity internet with x1 advantage modem in bridge mode. Using apple airport extreme as router with Apple airport express and additional extreme throughout the house. Wired speeds are excellent. Wifi speeds are slow. Want to upgrade network. My dealer is quoting me 4000 for network upgrade and said mesh networks dont work. Would like to do this myself. Any recommendations on what router/extender combinations i should use and tips on setting up or a mesh network that is compatible with control 4. I have os2 control4. Thanks. You are going to get a zillion responses. I have mikrotik doe router, Cisco for switches and unifi for access points youll hear many more options, you will hear that c4 has a defined list of suggested hardware, and you will hear its best to use what your dealer is comfortable if you use them for support. Lastly c4 tech support could frown on your system if certain hardware is in place (from what I’ve read - no first hand experience here) pretty much any light commercial equipment is fine if it’s in the right hands with someone who knows how to configure the network for c4
tekki70
not a fan of mesh networks, but after saying that, if you can hardwire each of the mesh extenders, make them waps, instead of extenders, ive seen the orbi system function very well
ekohn00
Sorry....still laughing about the $4k...... anyway, based on the 1G, you might check out Ubiquiti Networks. Look at the Unifi UDM-PRO for FW/Management. This was one of the most cost effective FW's I found that could do the full 1G. The Unifi APs do a good job, with apple devices too (I assume based on your existing equipment), And that's just my opinion......
lippavisual
Could easily reach $4K if they're installing the best Wifi out there (aka Ruckus), plus labor. It's not like he listed what was proposed and don't really have a scope of work. Not sure what you find funny? Ubiquiti isn't for everyone either, especially if you have zero clue about networking. The constant bugs and updates can drive one mad. msgreenf, crazybuppie, JSTRONG and 1 other
RAV
MESH is heavily frowned upon by Control4. With good reasons. Can it work, maybe, every system has different needs, could it be a problem in the future, yes. If you can run wires for conventional access points, then you should. But without the know how and tools it can be daunting for the average end user. crazybuppie
TD91
So the dealer is recommending Pakedge routers with ubiquity switches. wont come out and try and optimize my current setup, said this is their solution. I have hard wired access points around my home, where my apple airport expresses are currently placed. I currently have a Netgear GS116 Prosafe 16 Port gigabit Switch in my rack. Again, my wired speeds are great. Just my wifi is slow . So trying to see if there was a solution to improve wifi speed without messing with the control4 as much as possible. Hope that makes sense

Get those out. The switch isn't terrible, but you'll likely need bigger to add Control4. What your dealer is quoting is a good solution based on limited info. Cost wise, it's difficult to judge as we don't know what exactly is going in. $4k is certainly not crazy for a couple of switches, router, APs and setup/wiring as such, but again, not knowing the number of devices, size of switches etc etc.... JSTRONG
Im loving the Ruckus access points. If they are out of the budget you can go with Araknis
Cyknight
AFAIK Unifi is still on the black list. As such I can't endorse them (but I don't recommend against them either). tdougray
lippavisual
Ruckus R510's should cover just about any install for most people. Even the R310 or newer Wave 2, R320 would totally be adequate.
tekki70
honestly araknis 700 series waps are fast, and if setup properly work great, however ive had great succuss with luxul 1510 waps with a controller, the roaming from wap to wap is much better than araknis," boy i hate saying it, but its true." if you have apple phones, they are known to not want to let go of an access points signal, so luxuls controller telling the device to let go and grab the next access point is mu ch better
