jfh
Is there any type of natural gas leak detector with C4 support?
Cyknight
Anything hooked up to a security system could be incorporated into C4 (well assuming your security system integrated of course). Any gas detector with a sensor output can bconnected to a C4 controller (EA 3/5, i/o extender) or compatible contact input (ie C4 contact senor, Axxess RC6 and others) There is no detector that is wireless and has a 'native' integration that I'm aware of. eggzlot
I just wrapped up a whole home renovation project a few months ago. I asked on this forum, another one and 2-3 of the contractors at my house if there was any way to track just gas flow. I did not need the ability to turn it on/off but would be nice to know if I left the gas on to the grill outside or left the kitchen stove on - I figured when I hit my “goodnight” button - if either sensor detected gas flow, I’d get an alert of sorts. I could not find anything within DSC/Honeywell/Tyco for normal security. A few random websites I found made commercial only products that were not residential approved, etc. I was open to any sort of fittings as this was basically new construction so could be cut in line, placed on a pipe, etc. I found nothing. Post renovation I could Streamlabs which has a way to monitor water flow by placing a fitting onto a pipe vs cutting into the pipe. It was cheap and quick to install so I got it for fun - though one say I may bring in a plumber to cut in a more sensitive unit. That said, I did ask the guys at Streamlabs if it would be possible to make the same type of device for natural gas and they said it was a good idea and they would look into it but thats all I ever heard. C4 User
The explosion proof requirements of working with gas vs water is an entirely different world, but certainly doable. The contacts would need to be hermetically sealed. That said, there are electronically controlled gas valves for both on/off and variable flow (i.e. gas fire pit) applications available. If you are concerned about your grill and/or fire pit, both could be integrated with such a valve and controlled by C4 to ensure they are off at night, and to even send a notice if left on for too long. Do you have links to examples? Was looking at both a gas grill for outdoors as well as my indoor gas range
jfh
I’m looking to detect leaks in the gas pipe by my hot water heater.
lippavisual
CO2 Detector?? maybe?? Chowmain did do a driver for gas, but I believe it was for the large supply tanks. Probably can't easily find resi gas stuff because there are way too many cons over pros.
