How can I connect a speaker amp for audio if there's no secondary stereo output available? hdmi goes to tv for video/audio. zaphod Posted January 7, 2020 Share Posted January 7, 2020 So why doesn't the EA-1 have an audio output? I am still on 2.10, and looking at what I need to go to 3.x. But in some of my rooms I want an audio connection. For example, in my office I have a C4 4 zone matrix amp and a TV. The sound for the TV comes from the matrix amp that drives my office and a few adjacent rooms. So I have to buy at least an EA-3 for an audio output? Or have a kludgey solution where I extract audio from the HDMI which may not even work without the TV being on due to HDMI handshaking issues? That seems a bit much. The HC-250 had an audio output and wasn't the EA-1 kind of the EA series replacement for an HC-250. zaphod Posted January 9, 2020 Share Posted January 9, 2020 This makes me just think of the entry prices for a C4 system compared to DIY alternatives. I love my C4 and what it can do a lot but look at some of the alternatives. In some ways a Fire TV cube can do a lot more than an EA-1 or even an EA-3, and it is $150. It has IR blasting, it can received streamed audio. So it could be both an audio and video endpoint. It can also accept streamed video. It provides a 4K UI. It has a remote (a crappy one in my opinion) and it is an Alexa device. You could probably even sideload the C4 app and use it that way as well. But, as Scott Galloway always points out, Amazon can do things that others can't as the market doesn't require them to earn a profit. That's not really the case with Amazon as they were founded in July 94 and IPOed in May 97. That is extremely short compared to companies nowadays. Very true, but that was the philosophy that drove the tech bubble of the late 90s.
