rafa1985
Does anyone know if something can monitor energy consumption that works with control4. I seen some smart electrical outlets that if something it’s not been used it won’t turn on. I noticed since automating my home my energy bill has double just want to make the home more efficient. Or if anyone has any tips on what set up they have to help save energy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
South Africa C4 user
I think that @alanchow has a driver that links to some sort of monitoring system. Automation itself should not increase your energy usage so doubling sounds like a real problem somewhere!
zaphod
Can you get devices like the Kill a watt that can wirelessly or use powerline networking to transmit data back to hub. That would be very useful if the per plug cost was reasonable.
sonic30101
I use these to send notifications when the dryer and washing machine are done but that is about it https://www.amazon.com/Aeon-Labs-AEDSB09104ZWUS-Aeotec-Monitor/dp/B00DIBSKFU dcovach
dcovach
I think @South Africa C4 user was referring to eGauge EG3000 or the Saturn South panel devices. Monitors the circuits. @alanchow made the drivers. South Africa C4 user
rafa1985
So I could put them on dryer and washer to know when they are done and get announcement? How would that work? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sonic30101
I use a vera z-wave controller. Created a virtual switch in its interface that is turned on and off when the wattage goes above and below a certain wattage and C4 can be programed to beep the remotes and send a push notification when the switch turns off to the person who is home using the vera geolocation as well. Also used some of @alanchow's experience buttons to show when the washer and dryer are running https://www.chowmainsoft.com/experience-button-suite South Africa C4 user and dcovach
alanchow
For whole home energy monitoring we have two solutions. You can use he eGauge which has 10 CT clamps and is IP based. Our driver has minimum and maximum triggers on each circuit so you can program what to do when it exceeds those values. You can also use the Saturn South products which is Zigbee based and have either a single clamp or three clamps. Again our driver has a minimum and maximum trigger on each clamp. if however you want to monitor an individual outlet then I recommend using the belkin wemo insight switch. Our driver has minimum and maximum triggers on it as well plus you can auto select devices. This is useful for no control devices such as Playstation, Xboxes, etc. Control4 will auto select the device when it detects that it has left an idle state and will auto turn off the room if it is still the selected device when it returns to an idle state. anyway if you guys want to talk energy feel free to reach out. one of the companies I am a part of specialises in energy management for utilities. sonic30101 and turls

ecschnei
isn't there a GE Z-wave wall recepticle replacement that does energy monitoring that is now supported by the Z-wave C4 module?
WisC4
Has there really been no development on home energy monitoring in C4? Seems like with everyone on smart meters, wifi gateways, that T3/T4 touchpanels would be a great place to display consumption data and alerts for high consumption. I've been using a Rainforest Automation Eagle 200 for a few years, it looks like it will export to Wattvisions and stringify. Any movement on this or is energy just a dead end for Control4 at this point?
South Africa C4 user
I am monitoring all of my energy usage in a fair amount of detail using a combination of Alan Chow’s eGauge driver, the bNet Solutions eGauge driver (which is great for displaying individual circuits on a Touchscreen) and the Yatun Modbus TCP driver which has allowed me to integrate all of the variables from my solar / inverter setup (Victron) which supports Modbus. I then top this all off with the Janus Technology driver which gives a phenomenal webview of the history of usage (using the bNet Solutions driver results for electricity). I use this to display temperature, humidity, water usage and electricity usage history.
WisC4
Still surprising so little development on the energy monitoring front. Sense I know was a big win, but sense will not work with my home wiring. I do have a zigbee smart meter and monitoring device by Rainforest Automation that pushes the data out to Wattvision for reporting (Rainforest also has it's own app and reporting). Any idea if I could use BNET Solutions BLCons driver to display consumption as a gauge experience button? Is there any other way to bring Wattvision or Rainforest Automation API data into a T4 display?

Is there any other way to bring Wattvision or Rainforest Automation API data into a T4 display? BIcons is certainly a good solution for this if there is no native driver. BIcons has various display options including (from memory): 1. Voltages in steps of 5 volts, 2. Power in steps of 25Kw up to 750 (the 25KW increments would be a bit too large for cases where the utilisation measured is fairly low (e.g. under 100kW per day - see point 3); and, 3. A couple of generic dials and frames that can display from 0 to 100 in increments of 1. The driver allows you to link it to any float or number variable of another driver. If your float or number is a Control4 variable then the easiest way to get it into bIcons (in my experience) has been via the Yatun Number driver (which, if my recollection is correct, is a free driver). Cinegration
I would highly recommend checking out sense. The integration we did with them is really awesome. https://drivercentral.io/platforms/control4-drivers/utility/sense/ you might want to talk with their tech support. They might be able to work with your wiring… for solar monitoring its amazing.
