1 Cyknight
Well now - no luck in getting this player distributed yet so I just connected it local for the purpose of doing this driver. c4i driver file for pre 2.6: https://www.dropbox.com/s/99vm6y1q9mwb5im/dvd_Samsung_UBD-K8500.c4i?dl=0 c4z driver file, will show custom icon in 2.8.1 and up (should work on earlier versions down to 2.6) https://www.dropbox.com/s/4iog1cdwja2e2ca/dvd_Samsung_UBD-K8500.c4z?dl=0 All 'different name' buttons are available for programming or mapping to the color buttons/custom 1-3 buttons. I added both ABCD and their respective colors to the driver as codes, for redundancy. 'eject' is mapped to channel up 'pulldown' (info/123 hold) menu to channel down - this one's a bit wonky though 'home' is mapped to page up 'tools' is mapped to page down 'netflix' is mapped to record 'return' has been mapped to both prev and cancel 'title/pop-up' is menu 'disc menu' is guide The downloads/driver section of the forums does not yet allow c4z files (already requested) - but once it does I'll upload them there as well. 0 brente
Also, be sure to put the ir emitter on the front of the player to the LEFT of the usb port and NOT to the right of the port as shown in the manual. That stumped me until i saw the ir receiver location inside the chassis. Worked fine with the bd-f5900 samsung driver to start from... 0 Cyknight
I've found the old bluray drivers to not work all that well - particularly cursor arrows. I've hit a bit of a wall in creating the driver, as I'm no longer getting a picture out of the player at the moment - in other words I cannot test the driver I did already make. I doubt the local 7/11 is carrying HDMI 2.0 cables (which i suspect/hope is the issue), nor would I trust them - so It's on hold until I can get my hands on some cables tomorrow. Regarding cables, if you don't follow the forums on avsforums.com, there are a number of (very long) threads in the bluray players section (along with various display device sections) about issues that people are running into with the samsung uhd player using even hdmi 2 18gb cables as they can't seem to handle 4k/60fps at 4:4:4 chroma subsampling (which the menu on the player uses) depending on cable length (and other factors). So, if a new cable doesn't do the trick, there may be other things you can try to get a picture. Hopefully additional firmware releases from samsung will help. Just an fyi... 0 Cyknight
Yep, I'm aware. Just picked some up that SHOULD work - they've been flawless with 4K media players and 4K scaling BluRay players so far and supposedly tested to run HDR content. We'll find out tonight. Oddly, even force set to 1080p I wasn't getting anything...

0 Cyknight
There's a weird bug in the originally posted version, where if the IR wasn't placed quite right, up would register as up and select. The drivers at the links posted have been updated (for the dealers - version number has been updated on both drivers so driver manager will prompt to update with no need to delete and add drivers)

I am using version 5 of the c4i driver and was finding that they both would just do a skip forward, skip reverse, instead of a scan. I was able to program a different remote to control the Samsung, and when I captured the button commands, I found that the IR codes were these... When I edited your driver to use these new codes, it worked as expected. FYI... 0 Cyknight
Thanks, I'll have to have a look. My unit's been a bit dead in the water due to distribution issues, and I've had no time to move it around as of yet, so it's not in use at the moment. I haven't used mine much either, but was testing out my projector and saw it was skipping instead of scanning. I had thought that it worked before, but must not have. Given the crappy samsung remote, I figured I would try programming my AVR remote and that worked fine. Thanks for the original driver! 0 ejn1
All, would great appreciate if someone could post a pic of where the IR bud location needs to be on the UBD-k8500... I have tried locations reported on net to no avail. Thanks in advance.
0 Cyknight
Ah - note that the above drivers are updated and scan works. As for IR location, it's about 1/2 inch/ 1.2cm to the LEFT or the USD port (Sammy's own docs state to the right I think....) ejn1

0 wappinghigh
This is a great driver. Thanks CY! But how do I know I am actually getting HDR with this player.? When I put in a 4K HDR disc and pause it and look at the video stream info on the player it says "HDR" in the top left corner. Does that mean I'm definitely seeing the 4.4.4 HDR on my TV? It's a compatible Sony. But the player is plugged into a "standard", non "enhanced" HDMI port... and I'm connected via a 15m HDMI cable. How do I check this? Thanks. 0 Cyknight
On this particular player, you'll actually get a warning on-screen if your connection is NOT HDR compatible (and you're watching an HDR disc)

0 PenguinOpus
The C4 IR blast bud for this player has to be very carefully placed. I tried the location pictured but it did not work. I eventually just held it and clicked around until the blue-lite activity indicator started flashing and placed it lower and slightly right of where pictured. Question

hey everyone,
Excited to finally have a true 4K UHD blu ray player connected to my system. samsung UBD K8500
Only problem is I'm failing dismally to edit a c4 driver to accept IR commands. Never had problems editing drivers before,
but this time even though i've tried capturing the codes through both my hc800 and hc250, i can't get the codes to operate the device.
(tried downloading codes to a logitech harmony remote and that worked flawlessly)
any help on capturing IR codes to edit a generic driver much appreciated. or if anyone knows of hex codes for this device even better.
(was wondering if there's a way to disect the codes from the harmony ?)
any advice gratefully received.
best,
alex, los angeles
