MSI
We would love to use the Mini touch screen as an intercom. Is control 4 going to add this feature in the future ? I have heard discussions in the past that it may be added. Is this something that is planned ? If there is enough dealer/user feedback will it be added. What needs to be done, to get the ball rolling ?
Paul_Quadriom
A quick SEARCH will lead you to one of many posts concerning a future intercom feature on the MTS. I think this was one of the first item on their wishlist. It has been mentionned here and other forum many many times and the answers have always been the same; they're workin on it!I was in Toronto for my C4 training and one night while having dinner at the Keg with the others, in walks Paul Nagel, Vice President of Engineering at C4. oh goody I said to myself, I can finally ask the big guy in person! guess what the answer was? AJF
What's funny is that it seems like it would be one of the easiest features to provide especially compared to all of the really complex things that C4 does. Nutone has been doing it for decades .
MSI
If enough people show an interest, then it may move to the top of the list !!!

MSI
Well, now is the time to get it to the top of the list.
Paul_Quadriom
Well, now is the time to get it to the top of the list. You tell em What I've also heard (not directly from C4) was that even if the MTS has a mic and speaker, the hardware cannot be used for intercom so don't expect a software update that will turn it into an intercom. What I think (and that's my very personal opinion, and I may be wrong) is that we wont see the intercom feature until they introduce a new generation of touch screens, maybe a 7 inch? phreeze
If that's the case lets hear from someone who has somehow integrated a thrid party intercom system in with Control 4 and explain how it's connected or integrated.
zipperman19
I think it's mostly wishful thinking. Don't most people, who have a big C4 system, have a PBX system in their homes? If not, you can always set up a system like http://www.3cx.com/ for free and just buy IP phones. I don't really see such a huge need for it. phreeze
When you have children it would be nice to be able tell them to STOP! or come upstairs etc. over the ceiling speakers. rather than have phones everywhere.
zipperman19
You could have an extension on your PBX phone system be the Control4 system. I'm sure there is a device that you can hook into your phone system that allows you to output your voice/audio over an analog rca jack. Maybe you could then use the video loop in (or another voltage sensing device into a contact) to trigger an event to select the proper audio source and speakers for the audio to come through on. I know a lot of phone system support a PA type output, that's all you would really need. Or you could setup a MIC in the kitchen?
danlevine
The issue is Encoding and decoding audio via the MTS. They are hooked up IP not an analog intercom system. I know that C4 has looked into using SIP for this, but to be honest with you, I'm not sure if we're going to see it with the current MTS (v1/v2) I believe the v3 (7") mts inwall may have this feature built into the unit but it's impossible to say.It would really take someone at C4 picking up the ball and running with it, similiar to how Ryan E made the IP camera module (which has turned out to be a hit).
